Dr. Stuart James Mackay

Presentation Topic: Problem-based Learning an Interactive, Flipped-Classroom Pedagogic Approach

Dr Mackay qualified as a Diagnostic Radiographer in Liverpool and worked as a radiographer for 10 years in London. He then moved into radiography education and has been teaching and researching in Radiography and associated fields for over 30 years. In 2007, he was appointed as Professor of Medical Imaging Education at the University of Salford.

In 2013 he moved to the University of Liverpool and was appointed as Head of Programme for Diagnostic Radiography. A role he undertook for 10 years. For the last three years he has been deputy lead for Academic Quality in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. Dr Mackay was a member of the Education and Training Committee of the Health and Care Professions Council from 2009 – 2013. He has been a reviewer for Diagnostic Radiography programmes for the Society and College of Radiographers for over 15 years and is a member of the National Award and Approvals Board of the College of Radiographers. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Presentation Topic: Interest in The Field of Education: Should We Be Worried?

DRobert Levesque (D.S.S., B.SC., B.ÉD., M.Éd., Ph.D.) began his career as a high school teacher, teaching physics and mathematics. He was also a distance teacher for the Department of Education for 8 years. He was the recipient of the national award “Microsoft Innovative Teacher” in 2007 where he represented Canada in Finland and Vietnam. Recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award from his University in 2015-2016 and also recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal in January 2023. Professor and Head of the Education Sector at the University of Moncton, campus Edmundston, he was elected member of the Education Council of his school district as well as past president of the Federation of Education Councils of New-Brunswick Canada. Finally, Mr. Levesque is vice-president of the National Federation of French-speaking School Boards.

Prof. Hélica Lucivane Silva Assunção

Graduated in Chemistry from the Federal Institute of Goiano, Urutaí campus. Graduated in Pedagogy from Faculdade Venda Nova do Imigrante. Specialized in Chemistry Teaching, Chemistry, Human Rights in Schools, and New Technologies Applied to Education from Faculdade Venda Nova do Imigrante. Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in the Graduate Program in Teaching for Basic Education (PPGEnEB/IFGoiano). In Brazil, she worked as a Class C teacher at the Simon Bolívar Full-Time State High School and the Tiradentes Military Police School, as well as serving as a professor at the Federal Institute of Rondônia.

Prof. Dr. Nawal Alzahrani

Dr. Nawal Alzahrani is an assistant professor and theVice Dean of Research, Innovation, and Business at the English Language Institute, Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University. She earned her PhD in Linguistics and TESL from Oklahoma State University and has held academic positions at universities in both Saudi Arabia and the United States. Her research interests focus on language acquisition, TESOL, language assessment—particularly oral proficiency assessment—foreign and second language teaching and learning, and intercultural pragmatics.

Professor Dr. Fayez Al-Dhafiri has been the President of Kuwait University. He previously served as Secretary-General of the university, Dean of the College of Education, and Cultural Attaché at the Embassy of Kuwait in the UK. Dr. Al-Dhafiri holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Texas, a Master’s degree from Ohio University, and a Bachelor’s degree from Kuwait University. He has received six prestigious awards, authored seven books, and published numerous scientific papers. Princess Gerbie C. Durante is an Assistant Professor III at Bulacan State University’s College of Education. She heads the Program and Curriculum Development Unit, overseeing curriculum enhancements and new programs. Dr. Roland Moses is a senior lecturer at Tshwane University of Technology, specializing in Performance and Improvisation. He holds a Doctorate in Musicology, an MMus in Jazz Performance, and an MBA in education management. Roland has served as artistic director for the 2024 YAMAHA Young Soloist Competition and vice-president of the South African Jazz Educators Association. His debut album, Paths of Light, won Best Jazz Song at the Mzantsi Jazz Awards. He also conducts community music projects in Kwa-Zulu Natal and Gauteng and is a YAMAHA artist.

Dr. Michelle Attard Tonna

Michelle Attard Tonna is an academic member of staff at the Faculty of Education, University of Malta, coordinating school-based mentoring on a national level. This role oversees the mentoring of student-teachers during their field placement and whereby teachers based in schools are trained to be mentors. Dr. Hilda Freimuth is a tenured Associate Teaching Professor in the English Language Learning and Teaching Department at Thompson Rivers University (TRU). Mr. Denis Nuriu

Mr. Denis Nuriu was born in Tirana on July 13, 1979. 1998-2002 he studied at the Academy of Physical Education and Sports “Vojo Kushi”, (today Sports University of Tirana), graduated as a Teacher of Physical Education, specialty Combat Sports (wrestling). Mr. Denis Nuriu held the title “National Champion” in the sport of Greco-Roman wrestling for 8 years in a row with the teams of “Studenti SC” and “Dinamo SC”, joining the ranks of the National Team, where he has won many international matches. After completing his studies he has been the coach of Greco-Roman wrestling for several years with the teams of “Dinamo SC” and “Tirana SC” for youth teams, where as a coach he won many Champion titles. From 2018 onwards, Mr. Nuriu has developed his university activity as an academic staff with research direction at the Scientific Research Institute of Sports, at the University of Sports of Tirana in the Department of Physical Activity and Health.
